A message from our pastor

Rev. Phillips

Dear Fellow Travelers on God’s Highway.

“Here I am”, the latest Pastor at UMC of Hempstead.  I wish to extend my appreciation for the warm welcome received and do look forward to my season here with you. I have heard about the good works of this community of faith and the hard and engaged workers who have worked tirelessly in its vineyard.  I know that covid has, as it has done to many organizations, faith and secular alike, caused a halt to much of the church’s ministries. So yes, there is a lot of work to be done, dreams to pursue and recover, and missions to be accomplished.

Our country, indeed the world is under siege in all aspects, in the natural, the political, social and cultural. No church can proclaim ‘lack of work’, for the harvest is still plenty, but the laborers are few. But we serve a God who is in the resurrection business; who makes the blind to see, the deaf to hear and the lame to walk. This is Christ’s church; and no weapon formed against it, be it man-made, viral, spiritual or otherwise, shall prosper. And so let’s continue the vision of this community of faith as expressed in your mission statement “To be a loving and caring community of faith, connected to God and others, as we reach out to share God’s love to everyone and empower one another through Jesus Christ.”

Our God will replenish the labor supply, but first we step out in faith. So let us join forces, thoughts and actions and proclaim a new season for UMC of Hempstead. Let us press on to reach identifiable goals. Let us stand together at all times for the good of the church, for as the adage goes, together we stand, divided we fall. This is my invitation to you, will you accept it?

In His Service

God’s Peace, Pastor
